So You Want to Take Your Dog to Camp!
In order to find the closest-to-perfect fit, ask yourself these questions, check the camps’ web sites, and be guided by the answers. You and your dog will have a much better experience at camp if you select one that best meets your particular needs and goals.

Do I want to hone my dog’s competitive skills (and my own), or am I looking for play and socialization opportunities?

Do I like having my entire day scheduled with classes and activities, or do I prefer choices, and time to wander off on my own?

Do I like the idea of all of the dogs being off-leash all the time, or are my dog and I more comfortable with dogs on-leash except in certain areas or at certain times?

Can my dog and I go for a walk, swim or hike on our own, or do we need supervision?

Is the camp willing to work with novice dogs or dogs who may have some behavioral issues (barking, jumping up)? If my dog is more advanced, am I okay having novice or less-socialized dogs in camp? Even puppies?

Does the camp offer activities just for people, such as massage, yoga, photos? Do they cost extra?

Can I handle sharing one shower and toilet building, or do I need/prefer private facilities?

Are there alternate accommodation options nearby if I don’t want to stay in the camp itself?

What sort of meals are offered, and can my own dietary restrictions be accommodated?

Is the camp a licensed business, with insurance to cover accidents?
