When nature calls and your dog answers—this leash bag will hold four or five grocerystore-size plastic pick-up bags (and even more of the smaller versions) for quick access. Never fumble through your pockets again!
Cut two rectangles of fabric: one 11 1/2" by 9” for the bag itself and another 3" by 4 1/2" for the loop that attaches the plastic hook. Cut a length of elastic 5 1/2" long.
Take smaller rectangle and fold over 1" (making the rectangle 4 1/2" by 2" inches) and iron. Fold other side in to meet side one and iron in place. Fold side two over creating a crease where the two sides meet, and iron. Stitch down center of rectangle. Fold in half and thread on plastic hook. Fold large rectangle in half, with right sides together. Place small rectangle with plastic hook 2 1/4" in from the fold with 1/2" of the fabric sticking out the top. Sew top and side only with a 3/4" seam. Trim corners and seams. Turn right side out. Turn raw edge under 1/2" and iron. Turn edge under again 1" to create pocket for elastic to be run through. Sew bottom edge with a 1/4" seam from the top and leave a 1 1/2" opening to allow for insertion of elastic.
Attach a safety pin to one end of the elastic and run it through pocket in bag, leaving both ends out. Overlap ends of elastic about 1" and sew them together (make sure that they are sewn securely). Put your fingers in the opening of the bag and pull gently to make elastic disappear into the pocket. Sew the small opening in pocket closed.
