RIP Rotten Hound
Reader tribute, September 1, 2006

Jesse Albert Genne-Bacon, October 21 1994-September 1 2006, died today after a long illness. Mr. Hound leaves behind two adoring human siblings, two loving human adoptive parents, one canine sibling, and four feline siblings. He was born in Princeton, N.J. and named partly after Albert Einstein, whom he in no way resembled. He was a graduate of the Citizen Kanine Doggie Obedience School in New Jersey. He worked at a variety of careers including Nanny to two children and associate Nanny to many neighborhood children, Protector, Playmate, Baseball Player (who once played briefly with the Flemington Neshanics as an uninvited outfielder), Fetcher of Sticks, and Friend to all who knew him. He enjoyed swimming, riding in the car, camping, chasing cars, and was able to balance a rope toy on the end of his nose until his humans told him “OK” at which point he would toss it off his nose and catch it with his mouth to the astonishment of all who watched. He occasionally tried to speak English and was once heard saying “tomato” quite clearly. He lived in New Jersey his entire life.

His ashes will be scattered at the Ken Lockwood Gorge in Califon, N.J. Donations in his name to any animal shelter would be a nice gesture but certainly not necessary.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.
